Salina or Bust

This weekend, I took the kids to Salina to visit Grandma and Grandpa while Nick went to Reno for his brother's baby blessing. We left Friday morning and stopped in Springville to visit Shannon and Makenah (thanks again for lunch, Shannon!). We then got to Salina where Grandma and Grandpa were more than prepared to spoil their grandkids rotten! Mabel opened her birthday present from Gma and Gpa and was thrilled with her new dolls and especially her purse, complete with cell phone, keys, lipstick, nail polish, and perfume--everything a girl needs for a night out on the town! We then went to the most popular place in town, El Mexicano, for dinner--the whole town was there, which caused our dinner to take a little while, but the kids fared okay.
Saturday morning, Grandpa took Mabel, Sam, and me flying in his plane. Sam's been talking about "flying up in the sky" for about a week or two now--but was scared to get in the plane. He fell asleep shortly after take off. We flew over fishlake, which is still frozen, and got lost--probably because Gpa let me fly, and I wasn't watching the compass! But we eventually found our way back to the airport where Gma and Max were waiting.
"Did you say that we were lost, Grandpa?!?"

We also stopped at the Butch Cassidy KOA and let the kids look at all the birds. They had peacocks, turkeys, ducks, chickens, rabbits, pigeons, pheasants, and more! They were just walking around so the kids got pretty close to them.
Here's one of the chickens--it looked adorable when it ran fast.
We then tried to go four-wheeling. Max cried with his helmet on--and of course, Sam whose been talking about four-wheeling for weeks, refused to even get close to the four wheeler. So, Mabel and Grandma rode the four-wheeler down to the elementary school while Sam and Gpa pushed Max in the stroller.
Mabel loves four-wheeling--especially with Grandma and Heidi!

Max tried to enjoy the slide, but enjoyed napping even more.

Mabel and Sam loved the swings.

Even more than the swings, they loved throwing rocks on the slide.

After a great weekend, I think Grandpa's ready for his nap! Grandma got a really cool Geo-Trax train and plane set (you can see part of it in the picture) that the kids absolutely loved! It will be a toy they should look forward to playing with for years to come!

Thanks again Gma and Gpa for such a fun weekend! We can't wait to visit again.

Looks like you had a fun weekend! Our class read "Green Eggs and Ham" today in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday. Every time we read the line "Sam-I-Am" I thought of your little dude. 'Hope things are going good! Take care!
