In hopes of nourishing our garden spot, we've been putting leaves, grass clippings, and other decay-friendly items on the garden. So we threw our jack-o-lanterns on the garden and Nick got the real hammer and let the kids loose. It seemed like a good idea until we realized that hammers are too heavy for three year olds. No, Sam didn't get hit in the eye, even though the picture looks like it (he did get hit in the ear on a subsequent swing though).A few other accomplishments to note: I ran a mile in 10:46. I know that sounds slow to most of you who can run easily, but for me...it is a huge accomplishment...I used to throw up after running and still feel like I could sometimes. Most people have dreams where they can fly....I dream about being able to run fast, simply because I can't.
Kristen came over today to watch the kids while Nick and I went on a date! We went to the Cheesecake Factory at the mall. We were stunned by several things. The economy is supposed to be bad, but we had to wait in line for 35 minutes just to get a seat for a random Saturday lunch. While waiting, we went to Nordstrom and were appalled that the store was completely full and that sweaters were selling for $300, a 100% polyester dress for $1200, and a polo shirt on the clearance rack for $50. And lots of people were leaving the store with several bags. It appears to us that people who shop at stores like Nordstrom spend more money on clothes in just one shopping trip than we do in an entire year (well, maybe more like two or three years!)
We ordered our food and when it arrived, everything was cold except Nick's chicken. We got two slices of cheesecake for free ($14 value) because I didn't want them to reheat our food, fearing it would take another 20 minutes. So we walked by the Mercedes and BMW we parked next to and left the mall. I don't know what everyone does for a living to spend like this, but we think it's ludicrous, especially in a "struggling" economy.

Yes, it certainly does look like Sam is getting a black eye here.
Thanks for the "run-down" of your Sat. I guess the ol' Cheesecake Fac. isn't quite what it's all made-out to be. Sorry it wasn't a better experience.
Like you, I'm in awe at where people get their money these days....especially young couples and families.
What a cute idea with the pumpkins! I'm glad you got to go on a date but sad that Cheesecake Fac was a disappointment. It's always an indulgence when we get to go and I understand about going to the mall...we save all our clothes shopping as holiday gifts! Then I don't feel so bad spending the money! :)
I participated in this weekends Nordstrom and NM sales. My few items were all under forty, but I too was impressed at Americans cranking up the credit. I live with the concept that less is more.
Well, I don't know where everyone is getting their money but, we have always been good for the economy and bad economic times call for drastic measures... Disneyland here we come!!
