Our neighborhood was once again featured on the evening news. This afternoon there was a police standoff a few houses down the block. Apparently there was a family argument and the 50 year old son pulled out a gun. The other family members got out OK but the guy refused to come out so they called in the SWAT team and evacuated several houses in the neighborhood (not ours fortunately) after a shot was fired. After several hours of intense waiting and watching it ended peacefully when the guy surrendered and walked out of his house. It was amazing to see how many police cars and officers they brought in. There were at least a dozen police cars and several more unmarked police cars just on our road. There were probably that many more around the corner from the standoff house. We saw lots of SWAT team officers in full gear including machine guns, sniper rifle, battering ram, shields and lots of other cool police toys. You can see the SWAT van in the picture. The SUV in our driveway and the car in the driveway across the street are also police vehicles. This experience did provide our family a valuable lesson: don't mess with the police. The amount of man power and fire power they brought in was simply incredible.
Here's a link to one of the local news stories on the standoff:
However, even with all the excitement, Alex still wasn't impressed. This is how he patiently waited out the neighborhood lockdown this afternoon.

I did see the news report and when they said it was on your street I wondered how it had affected your family. Glad you are all okay. Who needs a TV when you can look out the window and watch real time news at it happens!
