Well, we've hit it....the dead of winter. Usually we're more than willing to take the kids out of the house and go to the park or play in the back yard, but since everything is covered in snow and it takes 10-15 minutes just to get hats, boots, gloves, and coats on everyone our options are running low. Even our usual walk around the block is getting cold and unenjoyable.We find ourselves trying to come up with activites that will last (a.k.a waste) an hour or two until it's time for bed, dinner, lunch, or nap (you name it). So Saturday, our activity idea was to go to the mall and ride the kiddy rides. We spent 75 cents on the boat ride, but the kids actually seemed to have more fun just climbing in and out of the rides, so they only got one ride. Nick put his other quarter in for some chocolate covered raisins, and they each got four! It was great excercise for the kids to walk all over the mall and fun. We're really running out of ideas....if you have any suggustions about ideas you have to entertain our kids for an hour or two, please leave a comment!
So besides it being cold and snow covering the grounds, at least we've had a few warm days this week that I've been able to get the kids out to help me shovel the drive way. We've had blue sky and it has been warm, but the dreaded inversion is due to set in this week, so I'm really not looking forward to that.Nick and I both got new callings today. Nick is the first counselor in the Elder's Quorum Presidency and I'm an Activity Days leader. We're looking forward to working on our new assignments.

Wow I guess Nick isn't the Secretary, so we really didn't give anything away!!! Congratulations on the Activity Days. That will be good for you, not too busy but still fun. How many girls do you have?
Sorry no wonderful ideas. In the winter in AZ we get to have lots of fun. Summer on the other hand is hard mostly swimming. But when we don't do that we build forts which keeps Gavin happy. Lots of reading. Do you have a small slide that you can bring inside? Lots of playdough and coloring. Gavin's favorite if probably hide and see and tag. Both I have to play with him it will be nice when Brody can do it with him. Anyway that is all I have. Probably nothing that you haven't done.
Take the kids to MacDonalds and let them play in the balls and whatever for awhile....or any other such fast food playground. Then eat lunch (or dinner) there.
Get or buy a mini-trampoline for the house.
Visit the church gym and let the kids run...check with the Bp. to see if they could ride a trike or small toy in the gym. Throw balls and chase them....drag the kids around on an old blanket. Let them tumble on a big piece of foam. Make a big box obstacle course for them to crawl through. Throw bean bags around or soft foam balls.
Going to the mall was a fun idea. What else do they have at malls or other indoor places that little kids could do in the city?
Make a tent out of a table and a blanket. Kids love to get under things. A big daddy bear could growl outside the tent and scratch at the "door".
Take the kids swimming at an indoor pool or rec. center.
Fingerpaint with chocolate pudding. Let it dry, then make a bear, or some other fun thing with the dried product.
Play with clay and make nests and robin eggs and snakes.
Make a cereal necklace with red string licorice and fruit loops. And then eat it.
Make a snowman out of marshmallows and other fun things to eat.
A scoop of ice cream (head) with marshmallow ears and snout and raisins for claws, eyes and nose makes a cute bear face to eat. The kids could make their own....maybe.

I know a great idea! Bring them to Kristen's house. You know there are new toys at my house. I have a new squash in my fruit basket. :) And don't forget the scary tub that is so much fun to play with.
