We had a fun 4th of July and spread the celebrations over several days. Starting on Thursday night, we lit some snakes for the kids and one fire work to get them ready for the big celebration.
Mabel and Sam loved the snakes.

They also enjoyed the one firework that we set off for them.
We made homemade ice cream that night. It always seems that homemade icecream is more like a milkshake than ice cream at first. The leftovers were much more like icecream.
On Friday, Nick had to work all day, but my sister, Kristen, had the day off, so we took the kids to Wheeler farm. The highlight was our tractor ride.
Friday night, we decorated the kids "vehicles" for the neighborhood parade.

We then set up our portable firepit in the back yard out of a wheelbarrow, dirt, aluminum foil, and charcoal brickets to roast our s'mores. I got the idea out of a book and it turned out to be a lot of fun. Mabel kept accidentally touching her marshmallows on the coals and didn't want to eat the dirty marshmallows....neither did Nick and he'll eat anything!

We then lit our fireworks on July 3rd and the kids really liked them. We only had one loud firework that scared the kids, but the rest hardly made any noise.
On Saturday morning, we met up with Kristen, Tyler and Shannon's family, and Grandma Burst for the neighborhood parade that started just a block from our house and went to the park. Sam was very particular about decorating his 4-wheeler and only allowed some streamers and two balloons.
Max enjoyed the parade as well in his decked out double stroller.
With a top speed of 2 mph, the four-wheeler slowly became the last "float", so for the second half of the parade, this is how Sam traveled.
At the park, they had lemonade, refreshments, beanbag toss, fishing game, and face painting. Mabel wanted fireworks painted on her face.
Sam wanted a lady bug on his face. He got the necklaces, fish, bouncy ball, and some candy from his fishing game.
We then spent the rest of the afternoon around our house. We had a BBQ, dived for money in the kiddy pool, played with water balloons, and roasted more mallows. It was a super fun fourth of July.

looks like so much fun and it is neat that the community does so much to get everyone involved!
happy 4th!
I wish Dad and I could have been there. Looks funner than a Salina 4th. Our 4th was boring....just sitting and traveling alllllll day loooooooooong. But we did have a traditional 4th of July lunch in Salina, Kansas and watched fireworks in Denver....same day. Beat that ya little trout-sniffers!!
Thanks for posting the cute pix and including us the best way possible when we can't be together this year.
