Boo at the Zoo

Mabel and Sam (aka Elmo and Big Bird) standing outside the zoo waiting to get in.

What else is there to do on a nice Saturday morning before Halloween? Go to Boo at the Zoo of course. At least that's what we and the rest of the parents with kids under 8 yrs old in the Salt Lake Valley thought as well. It was a lot of fun...the kids and both Nick and I had a great time. There was lots of tables set up giving away candy, but our kids only got about 5-6 pieces of candy before the line for a dum-dum grew longer the line at Splash Mountain at Disneyland. It was a lot of fun to see all the other kids dressed up. Mabel was by far the most popular costume, every kid and parent said "Oh, look, there's Elmo!!" Other's thought that Sam was Big Bird. One little girl even came up to Mabel from behind thinking that she was meeting the real Elmo. Luckily, Mabel was too distracted by everything going on to care about what people were saying. Nick especially enjoyed seeing other parents around with kids....it's just good to know that we're not the only ones who drive a mini-van, push a stroller, carry a baby in a front pack, have to stop to nurse, can sing every song on the latest Elmo DVD, and get excited when cheese sticks are given as a trick-or-treat. We didn't get to see as many animals as we wanted, so we ended up getting a family membership so we can go for free for the next year! Maybe next time we can consentrate more on the monkeys and lions in the cages instead of the strollers.

Mabel and a big cat!

They had a few workers with birds around the zoo. Here's the owl.

The kids got tired, and everyone enjoyed a light snack before heading to 7-eleven for slurpees.
