It seems that January always seems to be one of the more boring months in a year. This year, I decided that Nick and I should make a New Year's Resolution of losing 10 pounds each to at least have something to show for after the month is over. So far, so good....Nick and I are both down around 5 pounds and are only semi-onery about being hungry.
We got some new neighbors across the street that help liven things up a little (a six year old girl and eight year old boy). We've made great use of the library and are getting more than our tax money worth. Mabel had a sleepover at a friend's house and a birthday party at the nicklecade. And it has snowed a couple of times.
The first snow was exciting, but our second snow wasn't as much fun. It was much colder and too powdery to play in.
Sugar got spayed at the first of the month. She drove me absolutely crazy for about 4 days while she was recovering. She was in so much pain and just wanted to be held. She would not relax and would constantly kick her legs, run around in circles, or whine. She is now back in full swing again and is busy chewing toys and biting our fingers as usual. I have to vacuum the front room at least once a day to clean up whatever Sugar has decided to chew up that day. She particularly likes bouncy balls, tinker toys, shoes, Nerf bullets (maybe it's good that they're all on the ceiling), etc. Basically anything that can be chewed will be chewed. And destroyed.
I love January for the fact that it brings out the creativity in kids. I laid down with the kids for a nap one day and looked up to find little suction-cup bullets on the ceiling. Even though, I should have told them not to do it anymore, I couldn't help but think about what a fun idea that was. That's something I would have done when I was a much older kid! A day or so later, Mabel mentioned that Sam had put Beardy on a "finger skate board" and sent him down the slide. Again, I first started to giggle, but had to catch myself and tell him that he could hurt Beardy. And again, I could probably see myself doing something like that as a kid, too. We're ready for the next two weeks of the month, to see what fun we can come up with.
