Happy 1st to Alex and Sugar

On Thursday, Alex turned one year old.  We didn't celebrate much on Thursday, but he was as happy as I've ever seen him.  He even had a doctor appointment and got seven shots, but was still happy!  He weighs 19 lbs. 7 oz. (8th percentile) and 30.5 inches long (66th percentile).  On Friday we took the family to Antelope Island for a hike and a buffalo burger.  On Saturday, we invited Mummo, Brooke, and Kristen over for the big celebration.

He needed help opening a few presents.

But he seemed to manage playing with them by himself just fine.

Then the cake.

He liked to throw it more than eat it.

Brooke and Kristen have to be the BEST Aunts a kid could ask for.  Besides playing dress up, they also played princess paper dolls and many other games.

And as a coincidence, we got a dog the same weekend as Alex's birthday so I guess you could say it's Alex's birthday present (even though he plays with her the least).  She is a 12 week old Bichon Frise and has the cutest personality.  Bichon Frise are supposedly really good with kids, and with what I've seen so far, I'm really impressed.  She was mostly potty trained when we got her and haven't had an accident yet (quick, knock on wood).  She's still pretty nervous getting to know her surroundings and people, but I think she'll be a great family dog.

We named her Sugar.

She has hair and not fur so she doesn't shed.  I'm a little nervous about cutting her hair myself.

She'll be about 10-11 lbs. when she's full grown.

All the kids adore her and pack her around.  She has been very patient with them.  Alex has been really good with her and she'll go up to him and lick his finger and face occasionally.  The most annoying part is telling Sugar not to eat the food droppings from Alex and keeping Alex from eating Sugar's dog food!

Thanks for the birthday and puppy post. Looks like a great birthday, and Sugar looks just like our poodles. Poodles and Bishons have to be related. Hope she'll be a great little pet and family member for you. Keep an extra close eye on her and teach her not to run out of the yard. She's a doll!

Looks like so much fun. Wish we had been there to share in the fun. So glad Zion is growing up your way. Such a beautiful family.

Good luck with the new dog face.

Happy Birthday to Alex! I can't believe he is one already. He looks like such a cutie. And it looks like Sugar is a cute little pup. Dog and kids are so cute together.
